Oh no! The end is near! All is over!
While many lament the messy and embarrassing election for the U.S. Speaker of the House, I do not.
Democracy isn’t supposed to be a coronation. There’s supposed to be ugly fights, temper tantrums and pettiness. We are human, after all. We expose ourselves as the animalistic creatures we are when fighting for power and status. Smooth, gentle ceremonies do not belong. It would only show that there was no struggle at all.
That’s not the way democracy is supposed to work. It’s a push and pull of competing interests, identities and values. Decisions must be made and money allotted. Everyone compromises.
Oh no! The end is near! All is over!
