Washingtonian knitters filled two entire theaters for Barbie - the movie everyone will be talking about soon. We all bought the tickets months ago, before knowing about the actors/writers strike. I honestly expected my friends to laugh at me for going, but it seems they all had the same idea.
Barbie lives every day in Barbieland, where all the Supreme Court Justices, the President and everyone else of influence is a Barbie. Every night is a girls night and there is no cellulite. Ken hangs around the beach. But something begins to change.
Pink Pondering
Barbie starts to feel uncomfortable in her perfect role. She treads the hero’s journey to find the answer, as all heroes do. No spoilers here, but the film is fun, witty and satirical. You know a film has made a sharp statement when someone walks out of the theatre 45 minutes into a premiere showing.
The cultural anticipation of Barbie’s release is surprising everyone. It reminds me of the eclipse about six years ago…
