Relaxation and Centering

Stretch and Breathe

Getting oxygen into your lungs and muscles is an excellent way to not only feel better, but to settle your mind and help you to realize your priorities. Below are some free resources for you.

Meditation Aids

Stop thinking.  Just sit there and be.  We are inundated with messages about what others want, what we should want, how we need to change or improve.  Take the time to ignore all those external messages and listen to the ones coming from within yourself.  Don’t think about it.  Don’t engage in self-talk.  This is not the time to pretend you are on the Tonight Show (time for that later).

The following videos really transport me. The YouTube creator is TheHonestGuys.

This one is by far my favorite.

Their videos can be used to fall asleep.

Activities for Relief

  • Play with your pets.

  • Phone (not email or text) an old friend.

  • Start writing letters or postcards to people.  There are so many templates free online, like here, you can easily make a beautiful one yourself.  There is a feeling that a letter brings that a mere phone call, text or email doesn’t.

  • Watch a game in person.

Stop thinking.  Just sit there and be.

  • Go outside for a walk.

  • Take steps to limit the notification beeps your phone makes.  All those beeps and buzzes are designed to trigger an excited reaction.  The thing about it is that that reaction comes with a down a minute later.  The strategy is to get us used to the interruptions and the steady flow of adrenaline.  Our counter-strategy is to stop or severely limit these behavior modifications foisted on us.

Affordable Luxury

“Take a long bath” works better with extras. The following are recipes for very affordable ways to make your bathing experience special.

Milk Bath

  • 1/4 Cup powdered milk

  • 2 Tbsp epsom salt

  • 2 Tbsp baking soda

  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch

  • flower petals

  Oatmeal Bath

  • 1/4 Cup collodial oatmeal

  • 2 camomile tea bags

  • 2 Tbsp baking soda

  • lavender buds

I hope that these little ideas will help you when you need a boost.
