Keep Your Cool When the World is Going Crazy
Lots of upsetting things happening lately, so mapping out another toxic manipulation technique won’t help anybody find relief.
Instead, I want to share what I do to find my center and emotional balance.
A lingering cup of coffee in the morning, where I relax and try to think as little as possible. And yes, I will pretend to be on a morning chat show sometimes because I want to know what I think about things.
Journaling helps me calm my mind. It’s a kind of mind dump of nonsense that would otherwise cloud my mind. It is also a way to find my best ideas. And I don’t remember any of them later, so this practice is useful.
Watching old movies on YouTube. There are dozens of old movies you can see for free. Just search for “Mysteries.” And honestly, despite the filmmaker’s intention to create suspense, many of them are funny. The weird, sort-of-British accents and everyone walking around in wool suits all over the place is like a time machine that I am perfectly happy to only peer into. Like this one.
A brief walk changes my mood, turning it towards nature
for most of a day.
