On Persuading Ourselves
The word of the year is “goblin mode.” I never heard of goblin mode before. From Wikipedia
Goblin mode is a neologism for the rejection of societal expectations and the act of living in an unkempt, hedonistic manner without concern for one’s self-image.
At long last! A word for what my husband called being a “sensualist.”
It’s a natural backlash to social media culture, and releases us from the demands of perfection handed to us by influencers. Our point of reference is ourselves, not someone outside ourselves. We don’t have to wonder what others might think.
Goblin mode means more than just lying around in old sweatpants. It means a higher level of self-acceptance. It means bowing out of consumerism and approval-seeking. Talk about the Power of Now.
To go goblin mode, a person has to reflect on their desires and priorities. My goblin mode is not anyone else’s goblin mode. It is unique to me.
