Goebbels’ Principles of Propaganda - #6

TO BE PERCEIVED, PROPAGANDA MUST EVOKE THE INTEREST OF AN AUDIENCE AND MUST BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH AN ATTENTION-GETTING COMMUNICATIONS MEDIUM

All Media Must Be Deployed Simultaneously

In any propaganda plan, according to Goebbels, the message must go through many types of media: pictures, radio, print.  That is needed to catch a “variety of fish.”

Pictures

In Goebbels’ mind, the picture rules.  In his way of thinking, visual images have more credibility than words – spoken or written.

“Motion picture theaters and newspapers were controlled or purchased in neutral and occupied countries.” And after an air raid on German territory, the movie theatres were opened again as soon as possible.

Movies needed to have entertaining and absorbing plots which evoke and relieve tension.  The “general atmosphere” should influence the audience more than anything.
