Happiness and Lies

While I mildly enjoy watching sports, I never care who wins. It’s just great seeing a game well-played. Identity, for me, has never attached to an athletic team or player, which is why I watch sports alone.

Not so for politics.

Even well-intentioned people will use extreme language to get attention in this algorithm-driven world, and feel perfectly justified in doing so. For example:

The headline “MTG Gets HUMILIATED For Her ‘Alternative’ Math” gives the false impression that a humiliation really did occur. It didn’t. MTG has always allowed the arrows of fact checking to bounce off of her like foam toys. She wasn’t “humiliated” then and won’t be in the future.
