On My Media Diet...
The Plan
From 9 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. the next day, all of my electronic communications devices were turned off. It was supposed to be until 9 p.m., but I just got bored since I wasn’t supposed to cook, eat or clean either. It was Yom Kippur and them’s the rules. I added the idea of no electronic communications to the mix.
In the lead-up to this day of atonement, I suddenly got this desire to thoroughly scrub my kitchen - which happens every five years or so. But I couldn’t use Yom Kippur to clean, it was against the rules. It had to be a day of reflection, and so it was. Anyway, the horrible feeling has passed.
What I Noticed
I slept late since my phone alarm requires my phone to be on. It wasn’t. I spent several hours in reflection and a few more reading books. It’s funny, but I didn’t really miss my email or texts. It reminded me of Sunday afternoons when I was a girl, when we came home fr…
