Telling people stories about yourself often has little to do with what actually happened. It is about influencing your status or reputation.
So when Gov. Kristi Noem announced in her book with some excitement this week that she shot her puppy because it didn’t hunt well, it was to improve voters’ opinion of her. She clearly thought telling America she kills puppies would raise her public and political standing, which was somewhat of a miscalculation on her part.
But why would she think this was a good idea? Delusion. Noem told us this story - and I have doubts as to whether it is true - because it is the kind of action she would admire from someone else.
The Lincoln Project released an ad that said when tough moments come with pets, “shooting your dog in the face is not an option.”
In this political campaign season where candidates are openly accused of worshipping Satan and drinking baby blood, Gov. Kristi Noem thought, “Hmm. How can I convince people I am the right woman to take on Satanic forces? I know!”
