Screaming and Insults Not Required
I was invited to be on a Royal chat show to talk about Harry and Meghan as someone who is a fan and supporter. No one else has been willing to do this because the hosts and audience are so vehemently against the pair.
My goal was to have an exchange of ideas with respect, not to change anyone’s opinion. The host, Ron (@ProjectROOQ), supported that approach. While some of the audience tapped out because of me, as they declared in the chat, some welcomed another point of view.
I listen to this show every morning now and found the community to be basically nice and willing to allow room for disagreement.
I had another goal, though. To demonstrate that people can disagree and still maintain civil discourse. Thankfully, the show’s host has the same belief.
As we cede our public priorities to the sorting of algorithms, the tone of those discussions also are dictated by computer coding. It is eroding democracy.
