If someone has taken your passport as a way to control you, there is a solution.
Contact your embassy and ask for a new one. Specifically, consular services. Passports and visas are what they do all day long. They have seen it all, and certainly will be able to help you. Even if you have no money, there is a way to front you a loan to get you back to your family.
You will be asked what happened to your passport. Tell them. You will be asked for any proof of your identity. If you don’t have any, don’t worry. They can look up your passport photo.
Helping nationals in distress is what embassies and consulates do.
Phone them. Ask for help.
Show up. Ask for help.
You should never feel stuck because someone else took your passport.
