This Will Cheer You Up!
Most people do not post to twitter. In fact, 75% of Americans don’t tweet at all.
A key part of coercive control is isolation and giving the target the perception that the world is different than it is. When a person is isolated, it is easier to do.
This ties to the do-not-tweet reality because the way media chatters about twitter, you would think that everybody tweets. Or that twitter somehow represents an accurate snapshot of American society. Certainly, that was my impression. But they don’t.
If only 25% of Americans tweet, then the nasty people are a much smaller group of people than I had thought. The world is not spinning in an inevitable decline of cruelty and name-calling. It’s just a few jerks.
