Dr. Salter, in her book Predators - Pedophiles, Rapists And Other Sex Offenders, describes types of predators. This article is about “persuasion predators,” who have a particular methodology in finding targets.

Persuasion Predators:

  1. Find vulnerable person

  2. Approach slowly

  3. Dialog

  4. Small initial investment

  5. Test the waters

  6. Blur lines of comfortability

  7. Tell them they are “special”

  8. Move to the next level.

The targeting process is about pushing boundaries a step at a time.

Vulnerability

The big secret here is everyone is vulnerable at some point. That’s why anyone could be targeted for coercive persuasion and coercive control. It isn’t dumb people, or the silly or naive. This explains why some very intelligent and successful people can be persuaded using this method.
