Who Says We're Intelligent Life Anyway?
The thing about human beings is we think we are really great. It is a strong bias. Why we think that is unclear. We used to be prey. Then we mastered fire, and watch out! Apex predator!
There are hundreds of wild pigs living in the southern mid-west. One day I want to go out there with dozens of solar-powered golf carts and teach some piglets how to drive them. Then we’ll see who’s an apex predator.
It is my opinion that human beings are exceptionally stupid. And before you waive your calculus textbooks at me, let me explain. We still try to win by killing each other. In thousands of years, that hasn’t changed. Our means of doing so has improved, granted. In recent centuries, we started to poison our planet, too. Forty percent of Earth will be uninhabitable by the end of the century. And honestly, we aren’t changing a thing.
Now’s there’s this thing about computer programs being sentient…
